2.4 - Ether & Harks Empty 2.4 - Ether & Harks

Sun Jul 21, 2024 6:21 pm
Welcome to the section on Ether and Harks! In this post, we'll explore how Ether functions as a spiritual resource in MythCarver, how players can use it to perform magic, and the special words known as Harks.

Understanding Ether

Ether is the spiritual force that carries all life in MythCarver. It is both a resource and a means to perform magic.

  • Obtaining Ether: Ether can be acquired through Adventures or harvested from specific grids that contain ether wells.
  • Using Ether: Players with a SPIRIT stat above 4 can use Ether. To use magic, players must consume Ether and invoke a specific element.

Code:
Example: To cast a fireball, a player must use Ether to conjure fire and then narrate how they shape this fire into a fireball.
Narrative Flexibility:

The use of Ether is currently limited to the manifestation of elements. Players must rely on their narration to give shape and form to their magic. The more Ether a player uses, and the higher their Spirit stat, the more powerful their magic can become.

The Elements of MythCarver

Players can manipulate various elements using Ether. The elements available in MythCarver are:

Code:
Life
Water
Earth
Wind
Fire
Lightning
Death

Players must develop proficiency with each element through Adventures before they can fully control them.

Introduction to Harks

Harks are special words used by the ancient civilization that once occupied the world of MythCarver. They function similarly to spells.

  • Learning Harks: Harks are learned through Adventures. Each Hark requires a specific amount of Ether to use.
  • Using Harks: Unlike manipulating pure Ether, Harks have fixed outcomes. They cannot be modified or altered in execution.

Code:
Example: A Hark for "projecting an ice needle from one's hand" will always produce the same effect when used.
Quick Spells:

Harks provide a quick and efficient way to use Ether for specific effects, offering an alternative to the more flexible but demanding use of pure Ether manipulation.

Developing Proficiency

To fully harness the power of Ether, players must embark on Adventures to develop their proficiency with each element. This journey allows for deeper mastery and more powerful magical capabilities.

Future Expansions

In future updates, the concepts of religion and more sophisticated magic systems will be introduced, providing additional layers of depth and complexity to the use of Ether in MythCarver.
