2.1 - Adventures & Mini-Adventures Empty 2.1 - Adventures & Mini-Adventures

Sun Jul 21, 2024 6:11 pm
Welcome to the gameplay section of MythCarver! In this post, we'll dive into how Adventures and Mini-Adventures work, and how they drive the narrative and progression of your characters.

Adventures: The Heart of the Story

Adventures are the primary way for characters to start wars, gather resources, explore grids, or simply advance their personal stories. Here’s how they work:

  • Mediated by Narrators: Adventures are always mediated by Narrators, who are members of the MythCarver team dedicated to guiding and enhancing your story.
  • Requesting an Adventure: To start an Adventure, post in the "Request Adventure" thread. Clearly state what you want to do and why. A Narrator will then pick up your request and guide your story, setting the stage for your Adventure.
  • Adventure Threads: Each Adventure will have its own thread within the relevant grid. These threads can span multiple turns, allowing for detailed and expansive storytelling.
  • Adventure Completion and Rewards: At the end of an Adventure, another Narrator will review the entire thread and determine your rewards based on your achievements and storytelling.
  • Variety of Motives: Adventures can be undertaken for various reasons, such as strengthening attributes, creating settlements, studying new forms of magic, and more.

Mini-Adventures: Short and Sweet

Mini-Adventures are similar to Adventures but are designed for shorter, more focused bursts of action.

  • Shorter Duration: Mini-Adventures have a set time limit of two turns, making them ideal for quick, concise story arcs.
  • Purpose: They are perfect for smaller objectives that don’t require a full Adventure, such as brief explorations, minor conflicts, or specific tasks.
  • Mandatory for New Players: Upon joining the forum, every player must complete a Mini-Adventure. This serves as a tutorial for the system and an introduction to the world of MythCarver. It’s a way for new players to declare their character’s intentions and get their bearings with the help of a Narrator.
  • Special Reward: Upon completing their first Mini-Adventure, players receive a special reward tailored to their character, incentivizing further participation in MythCarver.

Resolving Adventures and Clashing Resolutions

At the end of each turn, all pending actions from Adventures are resolved. This means the outcomes and rewards are determined at the end of the turn when the Adventure concludes.

Clashing Resolutions: Sometimes, the outcomes of different Adventures may conflict. These are known as Clashing Resolutions. Clashing Resolutions are handled as a special type of Adventure, where the affected players must participate to resolve the conflict. Narrators will oversee these Clashing Resolutions in a specified thread, ensuring fair and balanced outcomes.

Embrace the Adventure

Adventures and Mini-Adventures are the lifeblood of MythCarver, providing opportunities for growth, conflict, and storytelling. Whether you’re embarking on an epic quest or a quick mission, these systems ensure that every action contributes to the rich tapestry of our world.
