Welcome to the section on Settlements! In this post, we'll explore how players can create and manage settlements in MythCarver, turning wild grids into thriving communities.
NPCs perform various roles within the settlement, supporting its economy and infrastructure. Unlike player characters, NPCs do not count as citizens and require no upkeep.
Creating a Settlement
After acquiring enough resources, players can establish settlements, transforming wild grids into Occupied Grids. This process has several steps and requirements:- Resources Needed: To create a settlement, a player needs 15 Wood and 15 Stone.
- Declaration of Intent: The player must declare their intent to create a settlement by embarking on a Mini-Adventure. A Narrator will guide the player through the process, helping them establish the settlement, name it, and determine its characteristics and boons.
- Characteristics and Boons: The location of the settlement affects its bonuses. For example, a settlement near an iron mine may have a bonus for ore extraction, while one near a river may have a +5 Water boon.
The Role of the Lord
The creator of a settlement becomes its first Lord, with significant responsibilities and powers.- Lordship: The Lord can transfer the title to any player or lose it if killed by another player. The Lord decides the laws, titles, and responsibilities within the settlement, providing narrative freedom to shape their domain as they see fit.
- Territorial Expansion: If the Lord occupies surrounding grids, they integrate into the original title, expanding the Lord's realm. It's advisable (though not required) for the Lord to delegate authority by creating Barons and fiefdoms.
Managing a Settlement
Managing a settlement involves overseeing resources, citizens, and building projects.- Upkeep Costs: Each settlement has an upkeep cost of 1 Food and 1 Water per citizen. Players can become citizens of a settlement by completing a mini-adventure with the Lord, requesting citizenship or permanent residency.
- Division of Labor: The Lord decides how labor is divided within the settlement and can create paid positions for player characters.
- Building Projects: The primary benefit of having a settlement is the ability to construct buildings with other players. Possible buildings include Forges, Mines, Roads, Aqueducts, Hunter Shacks, and more, each providing resources or benefits each turn at the cost of upkeep.
Citizenship and Residency
Becoming a citizen of a settlement involves specific steps and grants various benefits.- Mini-Adventure for Citizenship: To become a citizen, a player must complete a mini-adventure with the Lord, formally requesting residency.
- Laws and Requirements: The laws and requirements for citizenship are determined by the Lord, providing flexibility in governance.
Non-Playable Characters (NPCs)
Some buildings produce NPCs, who contribute to the settlement's functioning without incurring upkeep costs.NPCs perform various roles within the settlement, supporting its economy and infrastructure. Unlike player characters, NPCs do not count as citizens and require no upkeep.
The Power of Settlements
Settlements are central to the growth and development of MythCarver's world. By establishing and managing a settlement, players can create lasting legacies, foster community, and drive the narrative forward.Permissions in this forum:
